Here is the story of Thokan.

Part 1

The village of Rodrenon was once just three families living together. But over the years the families little settlement grew to a sturdy village. People came from across the country to find something they could call home. Because of the the population raised top the roof and new homes and farms were constantly built.
The wealth of the village could be seen in the form of huge fields. Crop fields, wheat fields, oat and corn.
But there were something other villages normally didn't have. When from the main road, looking towards the village between two trees you got a strange feeling. It may have been the sweet smell from apples ready to be picked from the many apple trees that stood next to the road. The joyful feeling when you saw the wheat sway for the wind one one of the nearby fields, or perhaps that cozy moment when you first glanced at the village from your point of view, the three buildings that you saw was a perfect image of the village, the village hall with the highest tower in the village, the tavern with the lovable oversized sign picturing an ale with a lot of scum. You felt at home.
Amongst all others lived Thokan. He had a loving wife, one older son, and one daughter. hey lived in a small house beside a little plot of land. They weren't poor, but there was no luxuries either. As long as they always had food on the table they were happy.

Thokan lived with his family for many years, from being an impatient twenty year old to a model of calm in his late thirty's. He also had changed in a other way. When he settled down here with his family he was skinny, but from doing all the hard physical labor he had grown to a muscular giant, if he was in a brawl, he would definitely win. But he was no fighter. But that was about to be changed.

One late summer night when all of his family was asleep he heard screams from the passage into the village.
"Bandits!" His wife rose up from her sleeping position. #Take care of the children", said Thokan while he went looking for his hatchet. His wife nodded and ran out of the room.
Thokan went out from the house wearing only leather trousers, showing off his enormous amount of muscles, and wielding only a hatchet which he normally used for gathering wood. What met him outside was a village in flames, and he could hear screams all around him.
Bandits came running on the main road of the village, some of them had spike clubs other had hatchets like Thokan, and a few rode horses wielding swords. But they all had one thing in common, they slaughtered every villager in sight.

It was like an evil mob, but with far more weapons than torches.
But despite the fear the bandits gave to the surrounding villagers Thokan acted fast. A bandit came running towards him with a spike club held high ready to swing. Thokan fell to the ground dodging the club, then he tried to hit the bandit in the arm but failed, hitting his knee cap instead. As the bandit went down to his knee it gave Thokan time to stand up and size a full swing against him. Two seconds later the bandit was dead. He ran quickly across the road when he saw that a bandit tried to kill his neighbour. Thokan threw his hatchet and hit him in the back, just before he would swing his ax. Other bandits noticed Thokan and surrounded him. He had barely time to pull out the hatchet.

Thokan fought gallantly for his kin, but soon he got a cudgel in his back and got stunned for a few seconds. Which was enough time for one to raise his sword and let it fall. Thokan got the sword right across his face. He just realized it before darkness took him.

He would never see his family again.

Part 2

The first thing he noticed was only blur. Then after a minute or so he regained his sight, bit by bit and at the same time felt being dragged against the ground.
He tilted his head up and stared into the scorching sun.
The singe in his eyes warned him not to look at the sun so he tilted down his head again.

He looked around. First he noticed the ground, then the houses on the sides and that he was dragged by two men. After looking upon them he saw that they were dressed for war and wore swords.
And that they were no bandits, they were the king's men.
He tried to free himself from the grip that dragged him against the road but it was almost impossible, the iron claws of the soldiers were firm and held him tight.
Suddenly he was lifted up and pushed forward, forced to stumble. He faced a log that was curved down in the middle, just so a head could fit in.

On the right side of the log stood a man with a piece of cloth covering his head and face, except around his eyes and mouth.
In his hands rested a giant axe. It hadn't occured to Thokan until now, he was going to be executed. His mind screamed and begged for mercy but he himself didn't utter a word.

The executioner took a step towards him. thokan's head was full of memories from his life, his tenth birthday where he got a knife from his father, when he bought his farm in the village and shook the sellers hand almost violently.

But what was that? he thought to himself. He begun to see movement all around him and not cause of the gathered people that had come to watch him die.
He saw it again, something moved behind the treeline, and yet again a flash from a cape that disappeared in one of the alleyways.
Only seconds after that on a soundless signal hundreds of arrows flew from the treeline and alleys heading towards the amassed soldiers unknowing of what just happened.

The townsfolk who luckily stood far from the soldiers spread out, running in all directions.
The executioner survived the arrowshower and was quick to raise his axe, he intended to finnish his job.

He took a step forward now standing only a meter from Thokan and raised his axe ready to strike, but just before he was going to swing an arrow came out of nowhere and dug into the executioner's neck spraying Thokan with blood.
The large man stumbled around for a few moments and the fell to the ground.
The axe fell out of his hand as he fell and Thokan got the broadside across his head and fell to the ground he too. His sight darkened second by second but he had time to see who it was that had fired that arrow.
In the middle of the cobblestone street stood a large man. A broad sword the size of a small man was strapped on his back. In his hands he held a crossbow. The look upon his face and smirk was barbaric and brutal, just as he was. The bandit stared at Thokan and smirked even more. Thokan saw this just before he closed his eyes and went unconscious.
