[b]Albert Hofmann, the Swiss chemist who discovered the hallucinogenic drug LSD, has died of a heart attack at his home in Basel at the age of 102.
apprently he died today ... regardless of other reports as to wether he was actually dead or alive being circulated for years   R.I.P the discoverer/inventor of L.S.D | |

I thought I imagined Albert Hofmann while on a bad acid trip. Glad to hear he was real.  In all seriousness, he lived to be 102, so good to know he got to (hopefully) enjoy a long life. | |

| yeh 102 is pretty impressive... he never set out to look for LSD initially but was trying to extract this chemical chain from ergo as a Hunger Suppresant I think - for weight loss - but a small amount of the pure liquid extract dripped onto his hand where it was absorbed into his blood stream through the skin...
... on his way home from his Lab, on his bicycle, he started to 'come up' and spent a few (in his words) "wonderful hours viewing a constant stream of fanastic imagery, specially when I closed my eyes.." | |

| I once years ago read about his experience when he 1st tried lsd, he was with 1 assistant and if i remember rightly they sampled it together, apparently it blew their minds when they looked through the window while tripping away and see panza tanks and the nazi regime trumbling into their town. | |

| Yep, quite an interesting guy. I know a few psychologists and philosophers from my uni days who used LSD to experiement with their "sciences" *cough*. Seems like that was his aim over the last few decades as well. | |

yeh i remember that story too  but it is apocryphal - the authority on the story (old Albert himself ) tells the story I mentioned above | |
